The pilot saga of the KirriCorp Fan Fiction, and, by extension, the Fan Fiction itself, came into being because of two people. The author, who creates and manages all the Non-Person Characters and their decks... and the duelist known as Yodaz. The author's aim was to find an attacking deck that could achieve a 50% or higher win rate against Yodaz's extremely powerful deck. While it was clear that Yodaz's skill in play was a highly contributing factor to the deck's success, even when given the list and playing it against herself, the author found that the deck provided by Yodaz was still able to consistently achieve victory.
This implied, rather strongly, to her, that matchups between that deck and attacking decks came down to game mechanics and were nearly not at all influenced by skill, a concept which she then decided to investigate, whilst chronicling this investigation through the Fan Fiction. The Pilot Saga therefore consisted almost completely of Non-Person Character decks developed by the author, dueling against Yodaz, and occasionally, other players with very similar builds.
After conceding that either her style, or skill, was insufficient to create the deck that would defeat him, the author opened participation to other persons, inviting them to build any deck that could defeat him, provided it contained only one aspect of his famous "Merfolk Engine" (Emeral, Corile, Illusionary Merfolk) in its construction. They rose immediately to the challenge, but the dominance of Corile established itself firmly for the most part, and no attacking deck could be found with the capability outright.
The Set 7 Saga proceeded to continue this investigation, with varying methods. The eventual conclusion was simply that the game mechanics favored Corile so heavily that the only chance of victory against a good deck utilizing it (without having one's own) was to somehow prevent the opponent from getting the card. As this was fundamentally considered impossible at that time, and new cards appeared to make the decktype even stronger, the fictional corporation KirriCorp appeared more often in the Fan Fiction.
Participation at this time was extended to all duelists, with the general 'restriction' of 'avoid putting Corile/Merfolk in the deck'. A story setup culminating in the errata of Corile, Cranium Clamp, and Searing Wave, then occurred, and the storyline continued as a way of showing what adaptations players made to these errata being put in place. Following this directly, the story switched to a representation of the ensuing controversy over these errata.
This controversy met no official end, however Fan Fiction continued to be a means for interested duelists to showcase their skills, their personal styles and decks, and to participate in long term Fan Fiction tournaments. Currently the fan fiction no longer focuses on Yodaz, Corile, research, or the game state in general, but rather simply features the decks, players, and interesting personalities of KirriCorp.
