The Relationship Between The Light & Water Civilizations
(the following is inferred from information given on the cards of the Duel Masters Trading Card Game)
The Light Civilization and Water Civilization of Duel Masters are known to be allies, at least on the basic level. They share a reliance on, and in some cases a love of, technology, and their societies are structured similarly in hierarchy. The Light Bringers living in the Sky Towers and floating cities, are relatively friendly with the Cyber Lords of the deep, and hold respect for the great Leviathans as well.
Despite both cultures being highly technologically advanced, their aims, and paths, often differ in regards to their technology. Light focuses on protecting their home, both in conflict, and through purification of the environment, whereas the denizens of Water seek knowledge at nearly any cost, though experiments and sometimes espionage. This does not lead to conflict between them normally, due to mutual respect and a general willingness to share or trade information. Still, their differing approaches are seen even in the ways in which they build their armies, with Water focusing on numbers and resources, while Light chooses to strengthen and enhance single units, or entities, to their maximum potential most of the time.
In the early days, the two Civilizations rarely had any reason to work together directly, especially since, even though they shared a common enemy in the Fire Civilization, the forces themselves faced two different adversaries. Light found itself in combat against the Dragons, and occasionally the Armored Wyverns and a few Dragonoids. Water fought mostly against the Humans, Armorloids and Machine Eaters in an attempt to overwhelm them for territory. Aside from sharing information on their enemies, there was seldom any direct reason for the Light and Water forces to engage in any coordinated maneuvers. They shared much of their magical technologies, but it was not until the Light Civilization was called up on to help the inhabitants of Nature in their battle against the encroaching invaders from the Darkness, that such maneuvers began.
The powerful Cyber Lord Aquan and his 'students' Marinomancer and Erias, offered their services to the Light Civilization as coordination and communication specialists. Eventually, the Light Bringers discovered that the three Cyber Lords had offered similar assistance to their enemies in the Darkness Civilization. Accusations of treachery were made, and the bonds strained, but Aquan pointed out insistently that there had been no promise to avoid aiding the Darkness, so technically there was no treason. The Light Bringers found themselves unable to truly contend this logic, as the Cyber Lords' relationship with them had not changed. Since they had also given the Light Civilization no information on the movements or plans of the Darkness, it was not farfetched to believe that the forces of Darkness had been similarly 'kept in the dark' about the plans of Light.
Still, the Light's trust in their Water allies had been shaken, and the elite force of Aqua Agents sent to train in the Sky Towers, now returned home, with a new mission from the Light. To keep an eye on the Cyber Lords. At this point, the bonds within the Fire Civilization had increased, forcing Light and Water to view the entirety of the Fire Civilization as a common enemy. Light provided Water with one more assistance. A program for "perfect evasion" to be installed in one of their specially designed Cyber Clusters. Even the Cyber Lords did not know the intent. These creatures would e the ones to act on behalf of the Light, if the Cyber Lords were to ever betray them.
No betrayal came. Relations continued truly as normal between the two Civilizations, and the Light Bringers slowly came to accept that their Water allies were only truly allies when facing Fire. Otherwise, Water acted in a professional, mercenary fashion toward both Light and Darkness, leaving any triumph over the Darkness to be a matter of skill on the part of the commanders of Light.
The shattering of the rainbow deep within the planet brought new, great threats to the world, and together, Light and Water developed some of their greatest hybrid technology, in the form of Bluum Erkis, Flare Guardian. The success of this project soon brought a greater solidarity to their relationship, and soon, after a few experiments involving fusing members of their soldier races Liquid People and Initiates, which were successful, they moved on to more complex technological fusions. First, they fused the new Cyber Lord Syrion with the technology used to make the Light Civilizations Gladiators, and, when this too was successful, they took the ultimate risk, fusing a Cyber Lord and a Light Bringer.
The resulting creature emerged as one of the greatest and most powerful leaders possible, a perfectly balanced amalgam of the two civilizations, neither Cyber Lord nor Light Bringer, they christened the new being 'Starnoid'. His wisdom would lead them forward even more in their struggle against Fire, and at times, Darkness. He was their 'Avatar of Hope'. |
